the supreme court may find itself at a point where updating the definition of the word, marriage, may be nescessary. why do we get married in the first place? for the benefits. for procreation? not nescessarily if we look at the out of wedlock births. does marriage have to embody physical intercourse? the term, what god has joined together, let no man put asunder, is appropriate for different sex couples but not for same sex couples? do we get married for family, not if brad and angelina are any indication. i think the courts should allow same sex marriages and let the officiating persons decide what to do about the individual couples as some officiators would not marry gay couples and others would participate in the ceremony. if these couples are on earth, then they deserve the equality as opposite sex couples do, but, if these couples are in heaven, the bible would not condone it. only the persons officiating at the ceremony could tell if the couple is in heaven or on earth and i feel the court should leave it up to the officiators to decide where the couples are, spiritually.
