what about from a marketing standpoint? merchants and customers alike are used to price tags such as 99, 89, 79, etc. no pennies? will customers have to fork over a nickle for a penny? that would be a four cent donation to the merchant and the government and four cent loss for the customer if the logic of 9 for a price tag is lost for the even 0 amount with no pennies around anymore. eliminating the penny would mean a lot to pricing statergy or psychology.
